SPOTLIGHT ON: College Access Marketing
Reaching students and families effectively with the "college message"
Since the late-1990s, public and private organizations have experimented with creative marketing techniques to try to increase college participation. The result is the emergence of an important new field: College Access Marketing (CAM), a type of "social marketing" that uses advanced marketing techniques to encourage college-going behaviors. In December 2003, Pathways convened CAM pioneers from around the country to discuss the future of the field. Following on the needs identified in that meeting, Pathways is developing a website and College Access Marketing Toolbox, to be launched in early 2005, that will serve as a place for CAM leaders to share lessons, materials, and ideas, all with an eye toward achieving the ultimate CAM goal: increased college access and participation. If you would like to review a beta version of the site and contribute your own marketing materials to the Gallery, contact Karen Cheng at cheng@teri.org.

Free copies of "The College Track" documentary
Pathways received a grant from the Lumina Foundation for Education to distribute copies of the 3-hour College Track documentary series free of charge to a number of organizations that otherwise would not be able to afford this valuable resource. The powerful series is an excellent tool for schools, outreach programs, community groups, and others to use in encouraging students and families and raising public awareness about college access and success issues. The first 100 copies have already been mailed and response to the series has been overwhelmingly positive. Our thanks to Lumina Foundation for generously providing for one copy of the series for each Pathways partner. [Video order form]
