Assess

1. Assess your own role in increasing college readiness for students. A tool such as Assessing My Role may be helpful.
    
2. Engage others in a discussion of college readiness and build an advocacy for changing/improving the counseling role.
    
3. Assess what is in place and needs to be in place in terms of an effective counseling program. Tools that may be helpful include:
• Indicators of Social Support
• Student Planning Support
   
4. Work with the principal and others to plan the effort. Establish a planning agenda and planning process.
