Academic Rigor and Support Self-Assessment
|
Relationship to framework
|
To ensure that a truly college preparatory curriculum is being offered, schools must look critically at the content of each class. They must also look at data regarding their practices and structures to determine whether they are providing sufficient support so that students can successfully complete academically rigorous work.
A key strategy for academic support is to restructure the use of time to provide additional resources to students who are challenged by such work. This can include direct overall support to students, a means to facilitate the transition to high school, and/or a program for the most at-risk students that provides intense and personal academic support.
Inherent in academic support must be individualized support to students that monitors student academic issues and manages the college application process.

Directions:
- Rank each statement in the first column by placing a 1 (somewhat important), 2 (important), or 3 (very important) in the second column.
- Determine whether the characteristics exist at your school by placing a 1 (barely exists), 2 (somewhat exists), or 3 (fully exists) in the third column.
- Calculate the difference by subtracting the figure in the third column from the figure in the second column; enter this figure in the last column. If the figure in the last column is 0 or a negative number, your school is doing fine. If the figure is 1 or more, your school needs to work on closing the gap.
- If appropriate, add additional characteristics in the blank spaces provided.
