How do I use the Toolbox?

The toolbox helps you to:

  • Learn about what works from research and examples.
  • Assess your present situation and plan change.
  • Access resources for implementation.
  • Monitor progress toward achieving goals.

Each school or college outreach program will need to determine how and when to use the tools provided in the toolbox. At the heart of the process is the hope that school practitioners and college outreach practitioners will use the framework and tools to join forces and work collaboratively to increase college readiness for all students.

The toolbox can be explored in one of three ways:

  1. Search by investigating the research-based College Readiness Framework. Each framework component contains a definition, examples of strategies used by schools, expected outcomes, and a list of related tools and resources. This route provides an overview, introduces the five components of the framework (high expectations, using data, academic rigor and support, social support, P-16 alignment), and gives information on the context for change.

  2. Search by your job role. The toolbox provides User’s Guides for principals, counselors, and college outreach practitioners. Click on the appropriate link to explore how you might use the tools:
  3. Go immediately to any of the Tools and resources: understand the college readiness framework, assess, plan, implement, and evaluate. Each tool includes information on:
    • The framework connection
    • Expected outcomes
    • How to use the tool
    • When to use the tool
    • Directions for use

Where can I get more help?
The toolbox contains an Additional Help section. In this section you will find examples, resources, and information about various organizations that can be of additional assistance to you and your organization.
